kaufmann repetto is pleased to announce Dianna Molzan’s exhibition Hubris Pubis Scatis.

The paintings in this show may not obviously sign to our current political situation but they have everything to do with it. Unlike past shows, where the paintings supported or complimented one another, often with a unifying theme, no attempt was made to harmonize the works in Hubris Pubis Scatis. These are six solos sounding at once, brought together through the time and space of their making. Each is unapologetically its own thing with different material agendas and internal logic.

Even so, there are a few reoccurring elements found in the work; heavily bordered and contained spaces; paint acting as residual gunk and grime; blocked and confusing compositions; sagging or overtaken forms. All of these creative impulses, along with the title Hubris Pubis Scatis, express a deep concern about the current threat to our civil liberties and public institutions.
