Swiss artist Nicolas Party’s exhibition Dinner for 24 Sheep opens on the occasion of the Met premiere of Thomas Adès’s The Exterminating Angel (which features live sheep among its large ensemble cast). In recent years, the 37-year-old Party’s reputation has soared thanks to his vibrant canvases and murals and his clever conceptual installations.
“There aren’t many artists today whose work is enlightened by surrealist wit,” says Gallery Met director Dodie Kazanjian, who organized the show. “This is Nicolas’s New York debut show, and it exploits his wide-ranging repertoire of painting, sculpture, and performance.”
