kaufmann repetto is happy to announce The Pink Noise Diaries, Thomas Zipp’s second solo exhibition at the gallery, which will open on April 5th, during MIART.

The work of Thomas Zipp uses painting, drawing, installation and performance to create a totalizing experience within what often feels like a suspended, uncanny world, in which the pillars of western thought – history, art, religion and science – weave in and out of a mythologized narration. From his 2010 show at the Kunsthalle Fridericianum, where the artist turned the museum into an insane asylum, to his paintings where figures like Martin Luther or Copernicus appear as spectral, psychedelic characters, to his performances where an impromptu, dada-esque rock concert plays before the suggestive and methodical architecture he creates, Zipp interrogates the institutional order of thing, favoring the blurred space where creative genious teeters toward insanity, reason falls into absurdity, or education becomes farce. Using a method that akins itself to psychoanalysis, Zipp unravels narratives and fictions that arise from these paradoxical places.

In The Pink Noise Diaries, Zipp will present a new body of work envisioned especially for the exhibition at kaufmann repetto that will sprawl the three spaces of the gallery and include painting and large-scale sculpture. The Fondazione Trussardi will also host a special performance by Thomas Zipp on April 6th at Milan’s Teatro Arsenale. Thomas Zipp was born in 1966 in Heppenheim, he lives and works in Berlin. kaufmann repetto è lieta di annunciare The Pink Noise Diaries, la seconda personale di Thomas Zipp negli spazi della galleria, che inaugurerà il 5 aprile 2013, durante MIART.

Il lavoro di Thomas Zipp utilizza la pittura, il disegno, l’installazione e la performance creando un’esperienza totalizzante all’interno di un mondo sospeso e misterioso, dove i pilastri del pensiero occidentale – storia, arte, religione e scienza – ordiscono una narrazione mitologicizzata. Dalla sua esposizione del 2010 presso il Kunsthalle Fridericianum, dove l’artista trasformò l’intero museo in un ospedale psichiatrico, ai suoi dipinti dove figure come Martin Lutero o Copernico appaiano come personaggi spettrali e psichedelici, fino alle sue performance dove l’artista suona un improvvisato, dadaista concerto rock davanti a suggestive e rigorose architetture da egli stesso create, Zipp interroga l’ordine istituzionale delle cose, favorendo le zone d’ombra in cui il genio creativo si ritrova sul precipizio dell’insanità mentale, la ragione sfuma nel assurdo, e l’educazione diventa farsa. Usando un metodo che rimanda alla psicanalisi, Zipp crea narrazioni e finzioni che sorgono da questi stessi paradossi.

In occasione della mostra, The Pink Noise Diaries, Zipp presenterà un nuovo corpus di lavori concepito appositamente per questa esposizione che si estenderà su tutti e tre gli spazi della galleria e includerà pittura e scultura in vasta scala. La Fondazione Trussardi ospiterà inoltre, il 6 aprile una performance speciale di Thomas Zipp presso il Teatro Arsenale di Milano.

Thomas Zipp nasce a Heppenheim nel 1966, vive e lavora a Berlino.
