Nicolas Party, the Swiss artist known for his unique surreal figurative paintings and monumental murals, brings his distinctive vision to the Hoam Museum of Art for his first solo exhibition in Korea. Party’s use of pastels—a medium that is both immediate and fleeting—offers a new perspective on the tradition of painting. For this exhibition, he has created five pastel murals directly on the museum’s lobby and gallery walls, artworks that will exist only for the duration of the exhibition. The exhibition invites us to reflect on the themes of longevity and extinction in nature, civilization, and among both human and non-human species. These themes, while resonating with the environment of Hoam where nature and culture coexist in close harmony, echo the ephemeral qualities of pastels.
