vivian suter: tintin nina

Curated by Cristiana Perrella

Created en plein air in the Guatemalan rainforest where she lives, the works of Swiss-Argentine artist Vivian Suter (Buenos Aires, 1949) emerge from her intimate bond with natural elements. Rain, soil, humidity, dog prints, traces of plant and animal life leave their mark on the canvases, blending with vibrant paint brushes, brilliant colors, and abstract forms. Suter acknowledges nature as playing a crucial role in the completion of her work, allowing chance and unpredictability to shape the final result. Installed in an immersive manner—evoking the lush visual richness of the tropical environment in which they are created—these works remind us that human beings are part of a broader, interconnected world. Expressing an ecological sensitivity, they invite us to “care for our common home” (Encyclical Laudato si’, Pope Francis, 2015).

Vivian Suter’s installation is part of the 2025 program of Conciliazione 5, the new space for contemporary art of the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See.

The exhibition continues at another venue: the Monumental Greenhouse of the nearby Botanical Garden of Rome, located at Largo Cristina di Svezia 23A.
