ICA, Milan
8 September 2021 - 9 January 2022

fondazione ICA Milano in collaboration with Pompeii Commitment. Archaeological Matters presents the exhibition A breeze over the Mediterraneanfirst solo show in Italy dedicated to Simone Fattal (Damascus, 1942).

Simone Fattal, among the most important contemporary artists, was born in Syria and grew up in Lebanon. Today she lives and works in France. Following to a long research process developed during the last two years, Fattal studied the universal history and the multiple individual stories of Pompeii drawing inspiration from the Pompeian artifacts. She has also been deeply inspired by their cultural, religious, social and historical archetypes and by their mixture between the mineral, vegetal and animal elements of which they were originally composed and by their cultural functions.

The exhibition is part of the yearly program Ceramics. Ideated by Fondazione ICA Milano, the project surveys the use of ceramic as an artistic medium, presenting a selection of researches that cross the 20th century and reach our contemporary time.
