Exchiesetta is glad to present and host Gianni Caravaggio‘s solo exhibition (Rocca San Giovanni, CH, 1968) entitled Più intimo a me di me stesso [Closer to me than my own self] curated by Roberto Lacarbonara.
Within the enigma of any revealed truth, there is always an image, a vision that is at once clear and resolved. An image that can redefine reality, its forms and its meaning in an unthinkable and overwhelming manner.
Every man can transcend the unattainable intimacy of himself in order to reach a renewed interpretation of the world, by ways of scientific observation as well as mystical contemplation.
Più intimo a me di me stesso [Closer to me than my own self] – like the Augustinian interpretation of a theophany – is the reflection of the artist’s imagination, the temple in which space suddenly widens immensely to the point of containing the unmeasurable size of a sky, a horizon, of a tour around the universe. In the artwork L’orizzonte si posa su una nuvola mentre il sole la attraversa [The Horizon lays on a Cloud while the Sun is crossing, 2015], represented by a weightless nylon cloud, the lines of a ray of light and of a horizon cross each other’s paths, thus giving shape and volume to that which is inconsistent and flimsy. In the two elements of Un polpo e un calamaro si allontanano fra loro per incontrarsi dall’altra parte del globo [An octopus and a squid move away from each other to meet again on the other side of the globe, 2012-2018] the pair of inhabitants of the abyss stretches the invisible line that defines opposite directions and escapes separation in order to reach the imaginary space of a possible afterlife. Beyond walls, beyond borders, beyond what is visible. A metaphor of the discovery and assertion of infinity in the human universe and mystery in the sacred realm. But also the dilemma presented by a twofold intimacy, that of a couple in which each unit is discarded in order to meet the other, in order to become the other.
