The Museum Ludwig, together with the Siemens Arts Program, is developing an exhibition with the Dutch artist Lily van der Stokker as a contribution to the exhibition series “Performative Installation”.

The individual presentations in the Galerie Taxispalais (Innsbruck), the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen, the Secession (Vienna), the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig, and the Museum Ludwig, Cologne each put readings of this complex topic up for discussion , but also function as independent exhibitions. For the DC: Saal in the Museum Ludwig, Lily van der Stokker produced an installation that consists of the spatial connection of wall painting and furniture. Since thelate 1980s, she has been presenting her decorative wall paintings, which consist of a combination of ornaments, luminous areas of color and texts written in cursive. It is about questioning the rules of the game – architectural, but also narrative,i.e. the specific relationship to architecture as well as the narrative character of this time-limited working method, because these extended wall drawings no longerexist than the exhibition itself.

Together with Lily van der Stokker, Angelika Nollert (Siemens Arts Program), KasperKönig and Christine Litz (Museum Ludwig), a special concept was developed for the DC: Hall of the museum. The approx. 400 m2 large hall will contain around twenty ornamental wall paintings with integrated wooden boxes. What is special about this project is that Lily van der Stokker also integrates works by other artists into the installation, as indicated by the title of the exhibition “Uly van der Stokker: Small Talk”: a “small talk” between wall drawings by Lily van der Stokker and works byJohn Armleder, John Bock, John Currin, Nicole Eisenman, Laura Emrick, Isa Melsheimer, Nada Sebestyen and Erwin Wurm.

Since the artist acts as a host, i.e. only sets very special works in relation to her art, it is not a group exhibition in the traditional sense, but a decidedly artistic approach. The selected works reveal a thematic and / or formal affinity to Lily van der Stokker’s artistic approach.

The exhibition will open at the same time as Art Cologne on Friday, October 31st at 7 p.m.
