kaufmann repetto is pleased to present THE SEAWEED SYNTHESIZER, Shannon Ebner’s fifth solo exhibition at the gallery, which opens in New York on January 10th.
Shannon Ebner’s practice is comprised of photographs, visual poems, installation and printed matter. Examining the relationship between image making and language as they appear in the found and constructed world, Ebner’s work explores the relationship images hold in the sites of which they exist. For this exhibition, Ebner’s conceptual approach to photography situates images at the edge of the visual, venturing into the intra-sensory realm.
The project began for Ebner when she drove to Black Point, Connecticut to visit the Sound, a body of water that is a narrow channel between the two states of New York and Connecticut. She continued to work in and around the Sound afterwards, with the name of the place taking on new directions and forms.
Over the course of the exhibition, Apogee Graphics (Los Angeles) will release an artist book by Ebner called SUBSOUND.
The work on view in located in the downstairs space of the gallery, accessible by stairs and an elevator located on the main floor. For further assistance, please contact the gallery.
